Jane has extensive experience teaching beginners through advanced in huntseat, jumping, and dressage. She teaches both children and adults. Her approach is one of positive reinforcement for the rider and encouraging performance rather than harsh words for mistakes made.
Jane starts beginning students out with the basics of horse handling, grooming the horse, leading the horse properly and learning to tack the horse up. Whether the student is an adult or youth, having a basic understanding of these principles is key in safely interacting with horses. Jane promotes a "safety first" concept in teaching individuals whether at beginner, intermediate or advanced levels.
Jane offers both group and individual lessons, though she prefers the personalized method of individual lessons.
When taking lessons at Hardscrabble Farm, students can either trailer in their own horse for the lessons or they have the option of using the school horses or an upper level schoolmaster is available.
As a trainer, Jane is available for schooling at horse shows.
Jane provides the full range of training services for horses. Her training is classically based. Her approach is to always be aware of safety for the rider and horse. Her years of horsemanship have provided her with a an extensive knowledge base encompassing a variety of methods.
Jane has trained a variety of horses from birth through FEI. She has trained a number of champion horses at various levels in dressage, hunt-seat and jumping.
Training at Hardscrabble Farm is done with care and sensitivity to the horse. It is geared toward the temperament of the horse and based upon the horse's experience level.
At any given point in time, Jane has a variety of horses she is training who are at levels ranging from just backed to upper levels of dressage.
